In the “Corona Cold Caper” I pointed out that both coronavirus colds and the flu seem to have disappeared. Here’s yet another view of it from syndromictrends.com:
When team panic is shown this the main rejoinder is that NPI have reduced the flu! The problem with that is that the two viruses that aren’t totally crushed are rhino and adeno (somewhat) which both turn out to be similar R0’s to the flu and much lower than corona!
So why haven’t rhinovirus colds been totally crushed also instead of just dampened then?
I also pointed out in my post about the Glasgow virus study that there are clearly interactions between viruses but our understanding of those interactions is extremely limited.
So I think we are left without actually any great evidence of NPI efficacy. And we are left with many questions about what is really happening with flu and various cold virus deaths which all occur mainly in the elderly just like C19. (There is also speculation from Clare Craig that with the focus on C19 Ct testing, the tests for flu may be being delayed outside their window of detection efficacy.)
And the CDC has actually changed their PI (pneumonia+influenza) category to be “PIC” now (adds C19) so it’s harder to disentangle whether we actually still have flu deaths or not (the traditional CDC PI deaths category turns out to have basically 30K deaths a year attributed from pneumonia no matter how many flu deaths are found).
Accidentally on purpose…
