And not as dangerous as Maine either!
The average US citizen is still safer now than if they had moved to Maine before the virus
So I decided to update my “But not as dangerous as Germany” chart to examine the US death rates in more detail by adding the pre-2020 mortality rates of the top 10 and bottom 10 states.
Very interesting. It turns out that Maine keeps quite close formation with the once and current charnel house Germany!
So if you moved to Maine last year you would be almost as certainly dead by now as if you went to Germany /s
And look at the dynamic range separating Utah from West Virginia! WV is 2x more deadly than Utah and also more deadly than Germany.
Why? Well one guess is that WV is “Hillbilly Elegy” country and has one of the country’s lowest birth rates while Utah is home to low obesity, high sunshine/ vitamin D and the country’s highest birth rate. And right there with Utah is Alaska with the country’s third highest birth rate — who’d a thunk it?
On the other more dangerous end and hot on the heels of Maine are Arkansas, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
